Rahn

Biology PSI Society Homeworld Language Background Notes

Biology

The male Rahn is about 2 metres tall and has a lean, muscular body. The female Rahn is slightly smaller, about a meter shorter but is as strong as the male.
They have a smooth, dark gray skin. Their dual sets of horns, once used for courtship rituals, have since grown smaller, and are usually highly decorated with tattoos and coloured bands.

PSI

The Rahn have not shown any signs of telepathic abilities.

Homeworld

As of 2241, the Rahn technically do not have a homeworld. The Korhonen invaded their homeworld in 2241 and many Rahn were killed. The many remaining Rahn managed to escape the planet in a huge fleet. They cannot return to their homeworld, since the Korhonen have since re-engineered the planet climate and atmosphere to their own incompatible physiology.

Rahn Mothership
Society

Since the Rahn were chased off their homeworld, they have now become a sort of nomadic race, roaming the galaxy in search of a world that would be suitable for their needs. For this purpose they have managed to create huge ships that resemble the old 20th Century Earth Stealth Bombers. These ships are of varying sizes and can all dock with the huge mother ships and travel as a few huge ships. Separation usually only occurs if a mothership is attacked, or to bring cargo, fuel, etc to the main vessel.

Background

Some scientists say that the Rahn don't have the intelligence required to develop space-technology, though they are capable of manufacturing spaceships and a small array of weapons. It is guessed that they learned the technology from another race with an unknown intention, but the design of the ships is not very similar to any other seen yet. Either the Rahn have "enhanced" the design and by that made it look like something new, or they procured their technology from an unknown race. Many agree that more research should be done before coming to a conclusion. The Rahn are not willing to share their technology with other races, and their ships employ a self-destruct function that sets in when the pilot dies, thus destroying all researchable debris.

The Rahn is an excellent pilot and a mortal opponent if he/she alone meets one or two targets, but if they face a group of opponents they are most likely to panic or berzerk. That is because they completely lack simultaneous-capacity; they can handle relatively few tasks at the same time. Cooperation even suffers greatly if they don't have time to think about it. It has happened that berzerking Rahn have rammed command ships, the ensuing self-destruct wiping out the whole bridge.

Some races capture male Rahn and train them for use as foot-soldiers, who turn out quite effective due to their natural loyalty to superiors. They are often used for boarding ships because of their large size and frightening looks. Few resist these soldiers in such situations. In spite of all that, the Rahn are not a totally warlike race. When prepared (having received specific orders from a commanding officer, for instance), they are fully capable of cooperating with each other and other races.
